Rugby Sea Cadets

Having spent hours of our time and effort raising money at the New ASDA Store in Rugby on Sunday 12th July 2009, we were distraught when the money raised was stolen.  The cadets, adult instructors and helpers had spent the day packing bags at the store to raise funds towards the maintenance of the Sea Cadet Unit and to purchase new equipment. The Rugby Advertiser have filmed the following video with commentary by the Officer in Charge, Sub Lieutenant (SCC) Stuart Glover RNR and Ordinary Cadet Declan McKenna.

Two cadets, Able Cadet Danni Parker and Ordinary Cadet Matthew Moseley of Rugby Sea Cadet Unit, represented Warwickshire Ditrict Sea Cadets at the South West Area Combined Regatta 2009, held today in the Bristol Docks.  Having beaten off competition from local units including Coventry, Sutton Coldfield and Tamworth Sea Cadets, the pair competed today against cadets from West Wales District to secure their place at the National Combined Regatta at the end of August, to be held at the Royal Victoria Dock in London.

Cadets, Adult Instructors and Helpers from the Rugby Sea Cadet Unit were at the new ASDA Store in Rugby today helping shoppers pack their bags at the tills.  The event was planned by the Parents & Supporters Association at the Sea Cadet Unit in an effort to raise money for equipment and running costs for the group.

The new ASDA store only opened its doors a few weeks back and the Sea Cadets are the first charity group to have helped shoppers in the store.  The group would like to thank the shoppers at ASDA and the staff for their donations and support during the day.

Two Cadets from Rugby and Two Cadets from Redditch Sea Cadet Units made up the Warwickshire District Sea Cadet Team for the Inter-Service Cadet Rifle Meeting held at Bisley in Surrey this weekend. Lance Corporal Ryan Bott and Marine Cadet 2nd Class Ted Spiby represented the district with the two Redditch cadets, gaining 7th place out of 18 Sea Cadet Team. This is the highest position the Warwickshire District Team has gained in the Watts Bowl Competition, shot at 600 metres. The competition saw 125 cadet teams take part from the Sea Cadets, Army Cadet Force and Air Training Corps, with teams from Canda also competing. Sergeant (SCC) Alison Scholes coached the Warwickshire Team during the 6 month selection process, which picked four, 4 person teams from the South West Area of the Sea Cadets.
