Rugby Sea Cadets Take 2nd at Seamanship Competition

A well deserved 2nd Place was gained by the team from Rugby Sea Cadet Unit, made up of; Team Leader Leading Cadet Amy Suddens, Able Cadet Danni Parker, Ordinary Cadets Declan McKenna and Henry Spiby and Cadets Tom Soden and Dean Peasegood.
The competition consisted of a number stances which tested the cadets knowledge on chartwork, navigation, bends & hitches, the ability to carry out a rigging evolution and to identify different chart symbols.
The team from Rugby competed against three other teams from the Warwickshire District Sea Cadets; Coventry, Tamworth and Sutton Coldfield. The scores were as follows:
1st Place – Coventry (178 Points)
2nd Place – Rugby (160 Points)
3rd Place – Sutton Coldfield (86 Points)
4th Place – Tamworth (85.4 Points)
The Coventry Sea Cadet team will go through to the South West Area Sea Cadet Seamanship Competition which will be held in Weston Super Mare in November 2009.
Rugby Sea Cadet Unit hosted the 2009 Warwickshire District .22 Shooting Competition at the Rugby TA Centre on Edward Street on Sunday 6th September. The team, made up of Lance Corporal Ryan Bott and Marine Cadet 2nd Classes Ted Spiby, Christian Nunnally and James Barber shot well, taking First Place in the Overall Team Event for the highest amount of points as a team and the ‘Top Shot’ Award for the cadet scoring the most amount of points in the competition. The Top Shot Trophy was won by Marine Cadet 2nd Class Christian Nunnally with a score of 151 out of a possible score of 200. The team scored 517 out of a possible 800 score with the rest of the district scoring as follows:
For the first time, not one but two cadets from Rugby Sea Cadets, have been awarded the Reg Day Memorial Trophies for attaining the highest overall marks on a District Leading Cadet and Petty Officer Cadet Advancement Board.
